Temples on Kodachadri Hill

Kodachadri is not only popular hill station for trekking, it also has few temples on it. Many people visit this place to see these temples than to trek Kodachadri Hill. Four temples are situated near the trek start point till where the jeeps reach. Apart from those four there is Ganesha Guha and Shankara (Sarvajna) Peetam.

The four temples present near the end of vehicle reaching point are Sree Parvateshwara temple, Sree Bhadrakali temple, Sree Siddeshwara temple and Sree Huliraya temple.

Honnemardu near Talaguppa, Shimoga

Honnemardu is a small village in Sagar Taluk of Shimoga. While going towards Jog falls from Shimoga take left near Churikatte cross to reach Honnemardu. It is present at a distance of 8 kms from Talguppa (Talguppa is 15 kms from Sagar towards Joga road and 78 kms from Shimoga) Vehicles are available on rent from Talguppa but they charge more giving reason that the road is not good and the vehicle mileage will drop. Small tourist vehicles such as Tata Indica, Maruthi cannot reach there as the route is of stone and mud. Many times to avoid taking visitors to this place, drivers and tourist operators give wrong information that it is being closed!
Canoe and Coracle for training and visitors ride

Honnemardu is deep inside forest and nothing is available there so take food and necessary items before going. Boating, Swimming, camp fire, building tents will be taught here by the Adventurers Association, Bangalore. Kodachadri Trekking and Shankara (Sarvajna) Peetam

Western Ghats constitute the mountain range along the western side of India. It is also considered as the Biological hot spot as it provides housing for diverse species.

scenery as Kodachadri is nearing

Kodachadri is one of the popular trekking spot near to Shimoga, Karnataka. One can even reach there using public transport as there are buses from Shimoga often. It was suggested by many that not to trek Kodachadri during Monsoon.

near to Kodachadri

On the top or peak of kodachadri is the Shankara Peetam (also called as Sarvajna Peetam), a place where Mythology explains that Adi Shankaracharya did Tapas in order to get blessings from Devi. One can reach the peak by three routes; all the routes will end at the four temples situated at the middle Kodachadri. From there all need to trek to reach peak irrespective of the way they selected to trek in three routes.
Shankara Peetam also called as Sarvajna Peetam at the peak of Kodachadri

First route: In this route jeeps are available for rent and one can go till the middle of peak where there are four temples nearby. Rent is Rs 1200 and it is advisable to go by the jeeps available there than the private vehicles as it require skilled driver to drive through rough roads with frequent turns, ups and downs in the road of full stones. It takes more than half an hour to reach the middle of peak through jeep and the driver will wait there for two hours at the middle of peak so that visitors can go till Shankara Peetam and come back. Also, it is advisable not to take heavy food before getting into jeep.

Second route: it starts from Nittur Government primary school before the base of the peak if you are coming from Shimoga side. This route goes through deep forest. In the middle of route even Hidlumane falls is there, a place for quick relaxation to the visitors trekking from base of the peak. It is advisable to take some local guide as route runs into forest and chances are that route will be missed. Also, don’t take this route if you are trekking in monsoon as Hidlumane falls over flow making it difficult to cross the roads. It takes hours together for the flow to come down. In the initial part of trek and in the middle there are few steep places. Be careful.

Third route: If you are coming from Shimoga side proceed six kilometers further crossing the Nittur village, you can find mud road towards left from main road or ask for hotel Santosh as private vehicles will go till that hotel. People coming from main road can get down near mud road and walk till hotel Santosh. The trek starts from here and it is almost five kilometers to reach middle of peak where four temples are present.

scenery visible from jeep

Difficulty of trekking is moderate. Peak height is 1343 meters. We felt that people are co-operative and we got a good driver Mr. Ganapathi who drove to the middle of peak. Even he arranges for accommodation on request. Otherwise one can stay at Kollur also where temples provide guest house at nominal rates. Mr. Ganapathi can be contacted on 9481349396

Buddha Statue at Hussain Sagar Lake, Hyderabad

One of the popular weekend spots of Hyderabad is Hussain Sagar Lake. Hussain sagar is having the 17 meter height monolithic stone statue weighing 320 tonnes.

Lumbini garden attached with Hussain Sagar Lake is having NTR gardens inside it and also the laser show. One can plan visiting all these on a single day as all are adjacent. I heard that the Hussain Sagar lake was constructed to solve the water from of this area by the then ruler but now water is polluted.

Regular ferry boats sail from shore to Buddha statue. According to the display board near Buddha statue it took almost two years to carve the statue with the help of 40 sculptors under the guidance of Ganapathi Stapathi. The statue was transported from Raigiri on a massive carrier with 192 wheels!

statue is being mounted on stone pedestal having stone carvings of Buddha’s life.

There is no entry fee for camera so one can click as many photos they wish. Also one can enjoy the speed boat ride taking rounds in Hussain sagar. It is advisable to enter Lumbini gardens by evening 4:00 PM or 4:30PM so that NTR memorial and Lumbini park can be covered before going to visit Buddha statue and one can stay there till sun set and later visit laser show which starts at 7:15 PM

Effective treatment for Ringworm caused by wet cloths

The common problem encountered in rainy season or cloudy weather is the ringworm caused by the improper drying of cloths. The itching and wound formed after that is beyond explanation. Best way is to prevent ring worms is by using dried cloths particularly inner wears and being specifically dried in sun light. Sun light is the best germ killer as research proved.

But how about the ones who got ringworm? Even changing soaps or applying creams available in market can give relief only for sometime but won’t give permanent relief.

One should no apply soap on the area affected with ringworms as it increases the itching making pH imbalance of the skin. Instead of that use Gram flour popularly called as besan to clean the affected area, which neutralizes the skin and achieves pH balance. Hope some people remember using besan to small kids while giving bath.

Wipe out water from the ringworm affected reason and allow it to dry for sometime as there should not be any moisture. Apply pure coconut oil on the affected area. It not only reduces itching but also reduces ringworm over a period of time. Continue this for a week or so, the ringworm will totally disappear.

Coconut oil is having lot of medicinal and healing properties but some people are spreading rumors about its authenticity.
